Walking over your dog walking problems
By Ben Waterworth
So you’ve found the perfect canine friend as a pet to spend a large proportion of your life with and you want to take them out for a walk. But time after time you constantly find yourself being dragged along for an embarrassing ride and before long you feel the urge to just give in and put your feet up instead of giving you pooch what they want. Well never fear, as with a few helpful hints you can soon become master of dog walking sessions! The first key point to master is that of your own physical stature and body language. It is essential that dog walker take control and make your dog feel as though you are somewhat of a ‘pack leader’.
In doing this your pooch is more likely to respond to your commands and not feel the need to overrun you during dog walking. Next, it is always important to maintain a good grip on your dogs leash and make sure it is in the correct position on their body. Having a harness around the lower part of your dogs neck will only increase their ability to pull, as is the case with any sled dogs you may have seen as this is where their main pulling power comes from. Making sure the dogs collar is firmly positioned around their upper neck will make sure they are well under control in a walking situation. Dog walkers should provide a grip on the leash that is firm, but not too tight. If you are a dog walker, you should allow yourself enough space to be able to pull your dog into order and then relax it enough for them to maintain a steady walking pace once they get back into the groove. Finally, always make sure you take your dog out around the same time every day.
Dogs are much like humans in the fact that they too enjoy a nice early morning walk to get their day started. Why not get up an hour earlier, put on the trackpants and take your furry friend for a nice walk before work? Not only does it help you train your dog into walking correctly but it also goes a long way to improving your own physical fitness. It is always important to make sure your dog is rewarded once it is doing a good job. If you come home and they have done a great job, make sure you give them a treat to applaud their success for better working with dogs. Dogs soon catch on to situations like this and with steady improvement they will soon be walking like a champion in no time. One helpful way for working with dogs is if you have the time is to get a friend or family member to film you walking your dog. This way you can then analyse the footage and work out what points you need to improve in order to gain proper control over your pet.
As with any form of training, it takes a lot of practice in order to get things right, so no matter how long it takes you, be it a week or a year, make sure you stick to it on a consistent level in order to give your dog a perfect pet care and a chance to learn and take things on board. In doing so you will have a happy canine that is the walk of the town!
You can hire dog sitters who can take your dog for a work. These dog sitters are generally students who apply through various dog walking jobs. While some opt for free accommodation while studying in Australia, there are others who work with animals for only sometime during the day. Dog walking jobs are a good way to understand dogs and get a head start in one's career on animal care.
