Dog Obedience Training

Tips for dog obedience training

  • You should always start with a positive frame of mind and attitude when training your pet!
  • Have plenty of doggy treats with you.
  • Make the exercise fun! Try starting with a game, and then do some further training before ending the training with a game.
  • Working with dogs during training should be fun for you and your dog, as they are you best friend aren't they?
  • Make sure you have plenty of space around the dog and you while working with dogs who are asocial, and provide it as a happy time for your dog to play with. While dog walking, the leash should be attached firmly and your treats should be flowing freely when the dog does a good dog walking job!
  • Dog sitters should remember that if they are feeding dogs with treats during the day, they should reduce the amount of food given to them at night as the pet sitter has already given them some of their recommended food for the day with the treats.
  • A dog sitter should talk to pet dogs, such as doberman -- just like you would talk to a person during training to keep up a good relationship! Ensure dog walkers walk at a nice pace!
  • The training should always be fun for them to learn!
  • You should always use your voice the best way you can by:
    - Having a tough tone for instructions for stay, sit and lay down
    - A happy tone and voice for telling it it's a good dog!
    - A low voice for bad behaviour and telling it it's a naughty dog!
  • Make sure the hand signals you use are correct and not confusing your dog while working with animals of this nature.
  • You should always use the word 'STAY' when teaching your dog not to move, and use hand signals at the same time.
  • If you turn around to make sure your dog has stayed, never look them in the eye as this can cause them to break their staying position. If they do break their position, go back and try it again.
  • If you have a professional dog training helping you out, listen to them as they are there to help you, not hinder you!
  • You should always do your dog training homework to brush up on extra dog training skills! It only takes around 10-15 minutes a day to learn something new!
